About The Hybrid Project
Established in 1999, The Hybrid Project is an interactive performance project that fuses beats, dance, poetry, live music, theatre and more in a series of forums, workshops, laboratories and premiere performances exploring the newest ways to use performance to communicate. The Hybrid Project selects today’s youngest, newest and boldest performers to come together in an open setting to explore where interdisciplinary performance art is headed.
The Hybrid Project was led by Tommy Shepherd, Erika Shuch, and Dan Wolf from 2003 - 2005.
We are pleased to announce the new Hybrid Project Resident Artists for 2008-2009:
The Living Word Project (The Theatre Program of Youth Speaks) and Artistic Director Marc Bamuthi Joseph, Chinaka Hodge, and Dan Wolf. This residency will include year round performance events, artistic incubation, classes and workshops and will feature over a dozen new, experimental and interdisciplinary performance works as they come into being. With the Living Word Project (Artistic Director Marc Bamuthi Joseph, Managing Director Joan Osato, Associate Artistic Director Chinaka Hodge) we will continue to present and curate Hybrid Forum performances and will present our annual Hybrid Performance Festival together, featuring artists from the large pool of Living Word artists. Marc Bamuthi Joseph will continue to curate and direct new pieces and teach select workshops. With Chinaka Hodge we will develop and produce her first play "Mirrors In Every Corner", first shared in an excerpt at the 2007 Grounded! Festival. With Dan Wolf we will continue to develop his multi-disciplinary adaptation of Adam Mansbach's book "Angry Black White Boy." "Angry Black White Boy" will feature Dan Wolf along with Felonious' band mates Tommy Shepherd and Keith Pinto. Prior to the World Premiere in October, 2008, Wolf and Shepherd will teach a special workshop as part of the Intersection Institute.
Anyone interested in applying to the Hybrid Project, please contact Intersection's Program Director for Theatre and Hybrid Project Sean San Jose.
"The energy level soars as topics such as love, competition, and self-perception are explored by a group of phenomenal young performers who give it all they've got and aren't afraid to ask for a little audience help." - Anna Mantzaris, SF Gate
