Intersection Leadership Training Program

The Intersection Leadership Training Program is a year-round, highly regarded internship program with competitive enrollment. The program aims to address the needs of emerging artists and arts leaders by providing opportunities in career building, professional development and hands-on experience. We offer comprehensive six-month internships including hands-on participation in producing, administering and promoting multidisciplinary arts activities. This program is designed to offer those passionate about the arts the opportunity to become a key member of the Intersection team.

Community Relations
The Community Relations intern works closely with the Director of Communications and Community Relations to develop and sustain methods and systems for outreach. Responsibilities include distribution of fliers and materials, research for audience development, contacting new and old audience members for current events, helping expand membership, assisting in the creation of marketing materials, shaping and maintaining a press database and cultivating relationships with press contacts.

Education and Community Engagement 
Intern will work closely with Intersection’s Program Director on programming for Intersection’s  Education and Community Engagement projects. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting artists and instructors who teach in the Intersection Institute, assisting with the Community Partner program development and maintenance, managing internet publicity and correspondence, creating program materials and archives, and assisting with program and audience development.

Intersection Artist Resources Intern
The intern will gain a deep knowledge and understanding of the San Francisco arts community and gain business and project management skills. The intern for the Artist Resources program will work closely with the program director to provide administrative and programmatic support for the management of over 100 sponsored projects. Tasks include: compiling evaluation materials, preparing grant attachments, assisting in annual project renewal, assisting in newsletter editing, conducting online research, and general administrative support in program coordination and communications. Being an intern for this program is an excellent introduction into the field of arts and non profit management while offering great networking opportunities with over 100 artists, arts administrators, and arts leaders in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Jazz at Intersection
Intern will work closely with the Intersection's Program Director on programming for our Jazz at Intersection performance series. Responsibilities include researching artists for current and future events, coordinating the production of Intersection's Jazz at Intersection series, creating program materials and archives, and assisting with program and audience development.

Theatre
The Intern would participate in load-in, hang and focus, and technical rehearsals and learn/use skills in carpentry, electrics, and audio engineering. This requires attendance of production meetings and rehearsals to observe/determine the technical needs of the production. They would also be invited to consult with the design team and technical director to assess the viability of planned scenic/lighting/sound elements. The Intern may also be called upon to serve as box office manager, lighting or sound board operator, or running crew member depending on the demands of the performance and the skill level of the Intern.

Visual Arts and Gallery
Intern will work closely with the Intersection's Program Director on programming for Intersection's Visual Art exhibitions and installations. Responsibilities include assisting artists with background research and installations of gallery shows, leading groups through the gallery, college campus outreach, managing internet publicity and correspondence, creating program materials and archives, and assisting with program and audience development.

All Arts Training Internships require a time commitment of 10-12 hours per week for 6 months.

While Intersection Leadership Training Program inerns are unpaid, you will have the advantage of working in a creative atmosphere with artists, writers, and performers; experience in the non-profit arts world; building contacts and working relationships in the Bay Area arts community; school credit; and recommendations. Intersection can be a resource for interns to learn about any and all facets of arts and nonprofit management. Interns will gain skills that can be used in future positions. The Intersection staff is happy to assist with resume development and future job placement.
