I'd like to thank you guys for an amazing summer internship experience.Throughout the summer, the people, events, and overall mission at Intersection for the Arts were an inspiration for me and I look forward to staying involved with the non-profit alternative arts community on the East Coast (in NYC and my hometown, Providence, RI). Moments like wrapping artwork "backstage" at the Birthday Party/Auction and chatting with Terrence Brewer's band before his performance made my cross-country trip more than worthwhile. The internship was a perfect mix of work (making calls for workshop payments, sending out PR emails, distributing flyers) and reward (Jazz at Intersection shows with Dr. Loco and Terrence Brewer, on-the-job-training for non-profit-related disciplines, and a research/writing project about Jazz at Intersection). My only regret is that I won't be around for the upcoming Jazz at Intersection shows at the de Young in the Fall. I look forward to staying updated on the latest Intersection for the Arts news, even if I am 3,000 miles away. Thanks again for a great internship!
Sincerely, Phil (Summer Intern '08)
"We really enjoyed the musical. The play was really creative and I especially loved all the references to local bars. Thanks again for keeping us on your Radar."
-Alberto (Mission Neighborhood Health Center)
"Thank you so much for the gifts you offer the residents of our shelter and transitional program. The tickets you so generously offer significantly add to the quality of life for the homeless women we work with. Blessing to you and your staff this holiday season." -St. Anthony Foundation
"It was nice to join like minds in celebrating Intersection's 40th Anniversary. How fortunate am I to have found such a unique place to experience Art."
-Peter (Pacific Visuals)
"Intersection is a place in which I have come to have tremendous faith; I trust, implicitly, what you do. To help you is like taking a deep breath of fresh air on a sunny mountaintop-it just feels good! I am so proud of you and all that you have accomplished in a relatively short time-which is, of course, proof of the many minions at 446 Valencia working tirelessly and unselfishly every day."
-Erika Atkinson
"I've walked out of many shows this year, but Campo Santo's work has had me on the edge of my chair every time, and that's damn rare in the Bay Area. Thanks for your work over this past year. It's helped encourage me to continue attending local theater. Campo Santo is by far the best in Local Theater, and I'd rate it equal to the best I've seen anywhere this year."
-Michael Gore
"I found the Intersection for the Arts fieldtrip to be exceptionally insightful and educational. The man who led our tour was very down to earth and really opened me up to new ideas about thinking about art and society and how they intermingle and influence on another."
-Student commentary
"Thank you sooo much for giving my band and I the opportunity to be part of this awesome extravaganza! You guys did such a wonderful job putting this thing together and it's a great feeling to know that people out there care that much about the arts. Makes me a little teary eyed!"
-Kasey Knudsen
"The whole event was an inspiration...meeting you again and Deborah and all the Intersection participants. You have a profoundly important organization...the type of community that can and does heal the soul."
-Penelope Price
"As soon as we all sat down and Kevin asked us what we were doing in school, our names, etc. I felt welcome. Usually in gallery settings I feel a bit intimidated, but not at Intersection."
-Student commentary
"Intersection for the Arts is a great place. Intersection gives opportunities to both artists and viewers. I personally was not interested in art before, but I totally changed my mind after yesterday. I really got inspired. Thank you!!"
-Minha (student)
"We are very grateful for your generosity! 8 of us for Marian Residence for Women were privileged to see "Hellhound on my Trail" and were dazzled and tickled by its brilliance. The set was beautifully impressive, the actors to notch, and the intricacies of meaning/social commentary were powerful. All of us felt invigorated and most of all, included."
-Marian Residence for Women
"How can words express the ecstasy of great music?! We were transported and wished we could have stayed with the group endlessly!!" "Thank you, I enjoyed myself more than I can express. Thanks again."
-St. Anthony's Foundation
"Intersection strove to provide a multidisciplinary setting for artists to take risks, and emphasized the value of community interaction. Reviewing the archives also reminded me that Intersection's programming reflected - and continues to - the social and political climate of the time. I always find that these stacks of papers have inspired me to keep alive the need to make the world a better place - one performance, one reading, one gallery installation, one heady jazz show, one art space at a time."
-Gabriela (Archiving Committee Chair)
"Thanks and congratulations to Intersection for all the opportunities you have provided to me and countless others for the last 40 years, and thanks especially for working so hard to create and support viable community, both practically and in the larger sense."
-Scott MacLeod
"I LOVED the music, absolutely loved the creativity, exploration, the absolute collaboration. Innovation. What I love about the performance space at Intersection is how the audience is intimately a part of the production. I love what you've all built at Intersection, and will try to get myself there more often. The rewards are immense."
-Jane
"I just want to thank you for the opportunity to see another play. June in a Box was just amazing. I love plays. I would love to see more. You opened my mind to other things, more things to like." "I wanted to take this time to thank you for providing the opportunity for my fellow residents and myself to witness such a wonderful play. I thought June in a Box was a well-written script, and I would love the opportunity to experience a similar play real soon. I had a wonderful time."
-Residents: Juvenile Hall Literacy
"The boys really loved the play and were very enthusiastic about it! They are getting great experience and it is really changing some of their lives. I thank you tremendously."
-Amy (Write to Read, Juvenile Hall Literacy)
"Intersection continues to be my idea of what an arts organization should be: a place that puts forth wide ranging, varied, original, cross genre/cross media offerings. And it always seems to me that there's a recognizable deep, ethical, political soul behind the decisions of what to offer to inspire community.'
